ATL Skills
At New Pathways Academy, helping students learn how to learn is just as important as what they learn. Through the IB Approaches to Learning (ATL) framework, students develop key how to learn skills like communication, collaboration, research, critical thinking, and self-management. These skills support students in becoming confident, independent learners both inside and outside the classroom.
Across all subject areas, ATL skills are taught, practiced, and strengthened year after year. As an AVID school, we also strengthen ATL skills through AVID strategies. The AVID binder system directly builds students’ organization and self-management skills. And students develop important personal affective skills like stress management, focus, and compassion through Weekly Town Hall meetings. With the development of strong ATL skills, students blossom into thoughtful, confident lifelong learners.
