Dr. Pat Perkins
Dr. Perkins was born in the parish of Clarendon, Jamaica, West Indies, where she attended elementary, middle, and high school before migrating to the United States. She settled in Connecticut and attended Central Connecticut State University, earning a B.S. in Mathematics and a Master’s degree in Education. She later completed her Ph.D. in Supervision and Administration at New York University.
Her dissertation, "Is There a Significant Relationship Between Teacher Observation and Student Academic Achievement," reflected her passion for education and her commitment to helping scholars become lifelong learners. This research strengthened her ability to support teachers in developing strong instructional practices and improving their craft in the classroom.
Dr. Perkins has served as an administrator for grades six through eight and has been deeply involved in all aspects of school life. Her top priorities include ensuring high-quality instruction, collaborating with teachers on curriculum, using data to drive growth, and providing opportunities for scholars to both overcome challenges and excel to new heights.
Equally important to her is fostering a positive school culture. She supports Restorative Practices, works to ensure that students’ social and emotional needs are met, and strives to create an environment where scholars feel seen, valued, and cared for. At NPAA, Dr. Perkins emphasizes that education goes beyond academics—guiding students in practicing the 10 IB Learner Profiles and following the school’s PATH norms: Perseverance, Accountability, Thoughtfulness, and Honesty. These values prepare scholars to be compassionate lifelong learners and responsible global citizens.
Dr. Perkins is also a strong advocate for families. She believes in partnering with parents and guardians to solve problems, celebrate achievements, and open doors to new opportunities. Over the years, she has built many meaningful relationships with families, who know they can count on her to listen and work toward solutions. She also collaborates closely with community partners to bring enriching experiences to students. In the 2023–2024 school year, Dr. Perkins wrote a grant that brought Broadway Junior to MS 117, where eighth graders performed Fame—a production that brought joy to both the school and the wider community.
Outside of school, Dr. Perkins enjoys playing Scrabble and Chinese Checkers, as well as going on cruises.
Dr. Perkins is here to support all scholars and families. Please do not hesitate to reach out.
